Brian Burns

Attorney

Brian Burns is an Associate Attorney at Vanaman German LLP, where he advocates
exclusively for students with disabilities and their families. His passion for special
education law is deeply personal. Growing up with a parent who has a disability and
navigating his own learning challenges, Brian knows firsthand the life-changing impact of proper support and accommodations in education.

Brian began his legal journey at Emory University School of Law, where he graduated in
2024. During his time there, he earned national recognition as a champion in the William W. Daniel National Mock Trial Competition. He holds his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he graduated cum laude with honors in Film and Digital Media. It was at UCSC—after finally receiving an accurate assessment and necessary accommodations—that Brian discovered his potential as both a student and advocate.

Brian’s approach to advocacy is rooted in empathy, deep listening, and a fierce
commitment to his clients. He works closely with families to ensure their children receive the education they deserve, and he believes in fighting not only for access but for dignity and belonging within the education system.

Before joining Vanaman German, Brian interned with multiple public defenders’ offices,
where he developed a strong understanding of the school-to-prison pipeline. His
commitment to early intervention drives his desire to keep students with disabilities from being funneled into punitive systems. Outside of his legal work, he is a dedicated Big Brother through Big Brothers Big Sisters and is currently developing a nonprofit—Tee Up Together—to make the sport of golf more accessible to all.

Brian is proud to be an active member of Los Angeles’ disability community, where he
continues to build relationships, advocate for systemic change, and stand beside the
families he serves.
