Vanaman German Joins in Seeking Injunction Against CA Statute
Vanaman German, Disability Rights California, and Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund, file Federal Class Action seeking Injunction Against California’s Discriminatory Independent Study Statute
On Tuesday September 28, 2021, Vanaman German, Disability Rights California, and Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund, filed a federal class action complaint in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, seeking to create additional options for students with disabilities to access individualized distance learning programs. California’s new Independent Study law sharply limited distance learning to only one option for families whose children are at higher risk from COVID-19: Independent Study. This lawsuit challenges the discriminatory denial of meaningful access to individualized and appropriate distance learning options for students with disabilities.
